dc.descriptionThe quality of the provision of water supply and sanitation is one of the main factors that ensure the well-being of the population. The purpose of this study is to conduct a diagnosis of water supply and sanitation services in this region by describing the current situation of these systems, determining strengths and weaknesses, as well as highlighting the opportunities and threats of water supply and sanitation services of the CDR. The total share of the population connected to water systems in the CDR is estimated at around 46%, while the countrywide connection rate is about 54%. The level of development of sewerage systems is much lower compared to water supply systems. All urban localities (100%) and only 6% of rural CDRs have centralized sewerage systems, with only 42% of the urban population and about 3% of the rural population. The total share of the population connected to sewerage systems in the CDR is estimated at around 10%, while the country-wide connection rate is about 30%. JEL: Q25 Water supply, sanitation, services
